Did you know…

Over one million people in Illinois serve as informal caregivers; they provide unpaid help to family members who have at least one limitation in their activities of daily living. It is estimated that if the work of these caregivers had to be duplicated by paid staff, the cost to our state would be 1.3 billion dollars.

Who are Family Caregivers?

Special needs may include any disability, any chronic or terminal physical, emotional, cognitive or mental health condition requiring ongoing care and supervision, including Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders, developmental disabilities, and children with special medical needs.

Family Caregivers provide unpaid, physical and/or emotional support to a loved one.

Providing the gift of time for a family in need is sometimes all it takes to show that you care.  Whether caring for a child with special health needs, a disabled adult, or a senior parent, caregivers need time to rest and rejuvenate from the demands of daily caretaking.

When you support respite care, you support families!
In response to the passage of the National Lifespan Respite Care Act of 2002 and the family caregiver act of 2006, the IRC has adopted the strategic goal to ensure lifespan respite care is made available to Illinois families and caregivers. We are dedicated to the needs of families and intend to serve as a catalyst to bring respite funding, resources and support to Illinois. Please join us!
